2010 Pinot Noir Rose

2010 Pinot Noir Rose

Our Pinot Noir Rose’ is made by the Saignee’ method, where by we draw some of the free run juice from the Pinot Noir red fermenters before they start their fermentation. This gives us great flavours and colours in the juice for our Rose’ while at the same time increasing the skin to juice ratio of the Pinot Noir ferments. The 2010 Pinot Noir Rose’ is a blend of different areas and clones of Pinot Noir from our vineyard, and it also has 2% Chardonnay to add mouth-feel and complexity. The wine was fermented cold with selected cultured yeast, to accentuate the fruit characters of the Pinot Noir, while adding complexity, creaminess and body to the wine. After fermentation, the wine went through partial malolactic fermentation, and then was stabilised and filtered before bottling in March 2011.

Tasting Notes

As Ed points out on the back label of this wine, its colour is remarkably similar to a great sunset, with its pink and orange hues. It is loaded with summery aromas, such as strawberry, water melon, rhubarb and cherry, and there is a great creamy undertone to the fruit. On the palate the wine is remarkably creamy, in both texture and flavour. It is medium bodied and full of berry flavours, and this time with a just a hint of apple in the background.
